A cartoonist who was a longtime collaborator with Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former chief strategist, died on Monday.
John F. Krasinski, 85, was an assistant cartoonist for the publisher of the satirical magazine The Onion.
The Onion is based in California and had a long relationship with Bannon, who was Bannon’s boss at Breitbart News.
A former senior adviser to Trump, Bannon has been widely criticized for his support for the president.
A post on the Onion’s website says Krasinksi died on a ventilator after suffering complications from lung cancer.
“John was an immensely talented cartoonist, with a keen eye for humor and a great sense of how to use it,” the Onion wrote.
“He also loved politics, and this past election cycle, he was a very vocal supporter of Donald Trump.”
Krasinsky had a deep connection to the alt-right, which includes far-right activists who believe Jews have infiltrated the Republican Party and the media.
He also drew some of Trump’s most controversial cartoons.
